For the past 18 years, I have worked with local governments to foster energy independence, reduce traffic congestion, curb local air pollution, strengthen local economies, and increase their resiliency to the changing climate. I have facilitated and created innovative participatory stakeholder engagement strategies with towns and regions such as Pittsburgh PA, the Greater Portland Council of Governments, Monadnock region in New Hampshire, NY Department of Conservation, Maplewood NJ, and Bridgeport CT. In recent years, I have worked on translating the climate and social science of recent research into communication and messaging tactics that can benefit organizations working for social change. My doctoral research focuses on community engagement for local climate resilience. When I am not in the lab, you might find me snow-boarding, running, and spending time with my six year-old son.

I landed a job right out of undergrad at Hill and Knowlton Public Affairs upon earning my B.A. in Communications from The George Washington University. I served as staff for two Members of the Florida Congressional Delegation in the 1990s: Representative Harry Johnston and Senator Bob Graham. I blew out of D.C. swearing never to come back because no good could come of this, earned my Masters of Environmental Management at the Yale School of Forestry, and then of course returned to D.C. where I worked first at the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Office of Congressional and Legislative Affairs and subsequently as legislative director for the Ocean Conservancy. I led three marine mammal programs for the International Fund for Animal Welfare, then worked for the House Committee on Natural Resources' Subcommittee on Oceans and Wildlife until my position was eliminated in 2010 with the advent of the Republican Majority. After a short time working for the Smithsonian Institution in a role that turned out to be different than expected, I returned to Florida to be near family and work as a grassroots organizer for the Sierra Club. I now an in my second year of my doctoral program in communication at George Mason University.
